Program Description:
The City of Kitchener is offering an art program for youth ages 12 - 17. Through an 8 week registered program, youth will learn to express themselves through various visual art mediums. The program will culminate in youth working on a community art project. As the Instructor you will be working with the youth to explore different visual art forms. In addition, you will guide the youth in using art to convey their thoughts, emotions and views about their community. We are looking for an instructor who is experienced in various art forms, is skilled at being an asset builder for youth and enjoys working with young people.
Major Responsibilities:
Plan and implement the weekly art program for youth ages 12-17 at two community centres in Kitchener.
Purchase and prepare any necessary art supplies.
Monitor art supply budget.
Supervise youth and constantly model appropriate behaviour, encouragement, and support.
Implement positive and effective behaviour management strategies.
Perform administrative tasks to support the program including budgeting, participant statistics and evaluations.
Qualifications:
Must possess relevant youth leadership, administration, supervision, communication, social development and positive behaviour management skills
Must understand and be able to apply the 40 Developmental Assets Framework
1 year experience working with youth in a recreational setting is preferred
Must possess skills in various visual art mediums
Must be able to work evening hours
Must have current Standard First-Aid Certificate
Police check required upon offer of employment
Transportation to various sites will be required, therefore access to reliable transportation is mandatory
